Security (SSL, Antivirus and Website)
SSL Certificate
This term refers to a security mechanism that is installed on the server to secure a domain (and sub-domains) and the services associated with the domain. It is a “certificate” that confirms that the domain is a valid domain, checking that any data transactions utilising or being sent via the domain are valid, encrypting the data (eg: emails, credit card numbers, usernames, passwords etc.) and securing them against being stolen or tampered with by hackers and identity thieves.
SSL Certificates are bought and renewed annually. They come in the form of single domain, domain and subdomain (wildcard) or extended validation (EV) certificates, and are chosen based on the security requirements of the client.

Antivirus Protection
This term refers to software that is installed directly on your PC, laptop or device to protect your devices as a user connected to the internet from potential viruses, malware etc.
Antivirus software was originally developed to detect and remove computer viruses, hence the name. However, as internet software and technology changed, antivirus software started to provide protection from other computer threats eg: malicious browser helper objects, browser hijackers, ransomware, keyloggers, backdoors, rootkits, trojan horses, worms, malicious LSPs, dialers, fraudtools, adware and spyware. more
Some products also include protection from other computer threats, such as infected and malicious URLs, spam, scam and phishing attacks, online identity (privacy), online banking attacks, social engineering techniques, advanced persistent threat and botnet attacks.
Antivirus protection is bought as licenses – one license per device, and is billed and renewed annually. The device can be macOS, Windows, Linux and/or Android (ie: pc’s, laptops, servers, smartphones, smart tv and tablets).

Website security
Website security has different aspects to consider, most of them not very obvious to the non-web developer. Websites that are built using a CMS platform like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal etc and especially those that are e-commerce enabled require a high level of security to be set on the website to ensure it and its data it stored is protected from hackers, bots and spammers.
Themes, modules, plugins, components, extensions and the database should be secured. We offer a monthly service to keep your website up to date with the latest releases and security updates, setting up a firewall and its permissions on the website, making it more secure and conducting backups on a regular basis to ensure capability of rolling back to a previous version should anything occur. We also do regular sweeps of the websites and server to ensure that no websites or additional services have been compromised.
